Edward Thurston:
Photography
Edward Thurston's heart is in Laos, although he loves Eureka Springs, where he's lived for the last 23 years. His photographs of southeast Asia, taken during two years of four trip visits through Laos, Cambodia and Thailand, illuminate his reasons for wanting to return to Laos. "I knew it was where I belonged: I felt the most at home I've been anywhere in my life."
His remarkable images of Angkor Wat were taken during the SARS scare, when he was able to experience this singularly beautiful area without tourists, and with only the monks still in residence.
Five years ago, two weeks after his return to America, he suffered a catastrophic stroke. He only remembers a car ride from the Northwest Arkansas Airport to Eureka Springs. One month after his return he became aware of lying in a hospital bed -- quite confused -- of course!
Now, he says, "it's time to figure out a way back home to Laos."
